For me, it happens at about the 45 minute mark. I get that odd feeling in the pit of my stomach that the movie that I'm watching isn't getting any better. It is just after the first hour that I begin to get a stinging sensation at my hip, you know, in the spot where my eight bucks use to be. Oh, there is the occasional moment when I tell myself that the movie will start getting better riiiiiiiiiiiiight NOW! but it never happens. I have a rule for myself - I will stick through any movie and see it through to the end. i.e. I've put down money for it, I might as well stay. It is at about the 80 minute mark that the word "revenge" begins to form in my mind. This is followed by the depressing reminder that there may be no way that I can avenge myself of the celluloid sewege that is currently battering my brain. But, I believe that any revenge is possible, even against bad movies and I believe that I have found my vengeful outlet for movies that have killed two hours of my life. Welcome to a dish best served cold . . . Brokedown Cinema strikes back at movies that have stolen precious moments from our lives. It is dedicated to skewering the worst of the worst of the worst. These are not two star movies, these are not one and a half star movies, these are the movies that don't deserve to be uttered in the same sentence as the stars. So, here's how it works - Once a week I select one film out of the thousands of movies that I've seen that has particularly boiled my butt. I post a review every Sunday morning of a film that can be current or an older film. Bi weekly, I will hold a question and answer column to be found at "Q&A" from your e-mails. Once a month I post a new essay in the "Odds and Ends" section. The essays deal with trends in movies, lists of movies, my annual worst lists etc. Speaking of worst lists, every year I will be giving out the "Golden Turd" award to the film of that year that has defiled the screen like no other. The winners of the first GT awards can be found here. This website, by the way, is always growing. I will make changes, add new features etc. So if you have an idea just let me know. So tune in for a good laugh, have your Sunday morning coffee with us if you like and let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy! |
